Approximately one-third of cancer deaths in the United States each year are related to dietary factors. NRI scientists are studying the link between metabolic disease and cancer and how individualized nutrition may be used in treatment and prevention.
Help fund nutrition-based solutions to prevent cancer. Your gift of $165 covers lab supplies for one day of scientific exploration.
Our researchers are exploring the relationships among genes, how genes are expressed, and metabolism, to learn how these factors relate to nutrition and determine the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Donate today to prevent heart disease. Your gift of $137 supports a research assistant in the lab for a day studying how good nutrition benefits the heart.
NRI scientists are utilizing the latest technologies in metabolomics to improve the tools for early diagnosis, more accurate prognosis, and discovery of treatments for diabetes.
Help scientists defeat diabetes. Your gift of $500 will host an accomplished visiting scientist for a half day to collaborate on prevention and treatment of diabetes through nutrition.
Our research indicates that what a mother eats during pregnancy may alter the way genes are expressed in her child and impact the infant's health. For example, consuming the nutrient choline during pregnancy can significantly reduce birth defects and enhance brain development.
>Give babies a better start. Your gift of $50 makes it possible for researchers to study how nutrition affects pregnancy so more babies will have a future of good health.
NRI researchers are studying how fatty acids, such as fish oil and flax seed oil, may enhance memory and attention abilities of infants. Research has also determined that properties found in blueberries may improve memory and cognitive abilities in older adults.
Give children good tools for learning. Your gift of $150 pays for materials for local high school students to design and create a research "toy" for use in our lab.
Up to 1% of the population and up to 5% of children in the United States may suffer from cognitive and behavioral problems caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol. Our experts in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) are identifying nutritional factors that place mothers at risk for having babies with FASD and are working to reduce the number of children impacted.
Fund the fight against FASD. Your gift of $75 provides 15 students and their families with educational materials to help prevent future instances of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
Two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese and in danger of related health risks. Our scientists are utilizing new technologies and equipment to discover the relationship between genetics, diet, and metabolism, and are addressing obesity and its associations with heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers.
Help scientists investigate obesity. Your gift of $350 pays for a day in the lab for researchers testing how nutrients affect metabolism.
New research suggests that your health and fitness can be affected by your parents' diet as well as your own, with effects extending through multiple generations. Our scientists are investigating diet- related defects that occur in utero and their relationship to genetic makeup and exposure to environmental toxicants.
Donate so scientists learn the latest. Your gift of $125 helps cover registration and travel costs for a lab technician to participate in a scientific meeting about cutting-edge technology.
Support a student scientist.
Your support offers student scientists opportunities to learn from world class researchers at the NRI and to explore career opportunities in the scientific world. Gifts will be used for stipends to cover student living expenses and for a portion of lab supplies.
Help fund a scientific career. Your gift of $84 supports a student serving a three-month rotation in an NRI lab for a day.
Help people learn about nutrition.
Your gifts give physicians, health care professionals and others access to the latest NRI research about nutrition -- how it enhances health and helps prevent disease.
Appetite for Life Academy | Nutrition Education for Physicians and Medical StudentsIMPACT: Improving Meals and Physical Activity in Children and Teens
Public programs, such as the Kindergarten Science Festival and the NRI's Appetite for Life Academy, bring the latest nutrition research alive through interactive lectures, demonstrations and events. Designed to transform nutrition research into hands-on knowledge, these programs offer practical advice for healthy living as leading experts in individualized nutrition share their latest findings.
Feed people's appetite for nutrition. Your gift of $50 will allow 15 people to attend the annual Appetite for Life Academy and receive educational materials about nutrition.
Designed and developed by NRI researchers, The Nutrition in Medicine (NIM) and Nutrition Education for Practicing Physicians (NEPP) modules represent the first core nutrition curriculum online focused on preventive and therapeutic aspects of medical nutrition care for both pre-clinical and clinical education. The NRI is bringing evidence-based clinical nutrition education to physicians and medical students, preparing them to address nutrition-related health concerns in everyday practice.
Help the medical community learn more about nutrition. Your gift of $100 shares this important curriculum with medical students and practicing physicians at little or no cost.
IMPACT is a school-based program that helps students learn about good nutrition and engages graduate health students in nutrition education. The program utilizes the power of peer influence and mentors, empowering students to make healthy decisions while encouraging leadership and having fun. Your donation will be used for teaching supplies and to support training sessions for the medical students.
Give school kids the ABCs of nutrition. Your gift of $35 funds a week's worth of teaching supplies to use with students in the classroom.
