Faculty Positions
The Nutrition Research Institute is recruiting three research teams who will work together (as they would in a program-project) on Nutrition and Obesity/ Eating Disorders, Nutrition and Cancer, and Nutrition and Brain. Each team will consist of a lead scientist and four other principal scientists and their associated research groups. Additionally, three faculty members with methods expertise in metabolomics, nutrient genomics, and nutrient intake assessment are needed to serve as members of all three research teams. All faculty appointments will be tenured or tenure track in one of the departments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR - OBESITY

Position Summary: The Nutrition Research Institute and the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications at the Assistant or Associate Professor level for a tenure-track position in the area of human obesity and energy metabolism research. This position will be located at the Nutrition Research Institute in Kannapolis, NC. The selected candidate would have access to a sophisticated human obesity research facility with whole room calorimeter, DEXA scanner, ultrasound, metabolic carts, Bodpod, metabolic kitchen, etc. The candidate would be expected to develop a portfolio of grant-supported and industry-supported research using this facility that is complemented by studies in model systems (animal or cell culture).
Education Requirements: Earned doctorates in a relevant discipline required.
Qualifications and Experience: Candidates should have demonstrated experience in obesity/diabetes/energy metabolism research preferably studying signaling molecules, drugs and/or genes that regulate feeding behavior, adipogenesis and/or energy metabolism. Experience with human clinical trials, industry-sponsored studies and with cell culture and/or animal models desired.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE-OBESITY AND BODY WEIGHT REGULATION
Postdoctoral research associate wanted to help develop a research program in nutrigenomics of obesity/energy expenditure and the molecular mechanisms of body weight regulation with a focus on translational research. You would be joining a research group at the leading edge of nutrition research working with Professor Andrew Swick, PhD (see Pubmed for publications). Applicant will conduct human studies utilizing whole room indirect calorimetry, as well as animal and in vitro experiments. Requirements include: 1) Ph.D. and/or MD, 2) experience and/or interest in performing human clinical studies, 3) research experience and training in either nutrition, physiology, medicine or a related field. Relevant experience in experimental design, statistical analyses, instrument troubleshooting, proficiency in English and presenting experimental results is desirable. Spacious new NUTRITION RESEARCH INSTITUTE (www.NRI.org) facilities include whole room calorimeter, metabolic carts, whole body DEXA scanner, BodPod, ultrasound, as well as facilities for animal and cell based research. RESEARCH PROFESSOR - FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME

Position Summary: The Nutrition Research Institute and the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are jointly seeking applications for a faculty member with expertise in the area of fetal alcohol syndrome research. The position is located at a new UNC Chapel Hill Research Institute located on the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, North Carolina. This is to be a grant-funded research appointment at the full professor level as supported by experience, research and scholarly accomplishments. It is expected that the successful candidate will bring sufficient external funding to support this position. Specific responsibilities will include conducting epidemiological, population-based, and/or human studies, and studying nutritional factors that contribute to FAS. Evidence of capacity to obtain external funding is required. Participation in the Institute's and Department's service programs will be negotiated with the Chair of the Department of Nutrition.

Candidates should have a strong track record of NIH-equivalent grant funding. Preference will be given to scientists interested in collaborating with basic scientists on molecular mechanisms underlying FAS, and with cognitive scientists on brain function changes associated with FAS. A cutting edge core animal facility as well as an instrumentation facility in microscopy, genomics and metabolomics, staffed by skilled scientists, will be available to all Institute investigators. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish and collaborate in multidisciplinary, funded research programs, ability to publish in quality journals, as well as a clear track record of scholarly accomplishment.
