This position is located at the UNC Nutrition Research Institute in Kannapolis, NC near Charlotte, NC.

This position will serve as a Clinical Study Coordinator for clinical research projects of the NRI Human Research Core and of projects headed by Dr. Martin Kohlmeier. The position will handle participant recruitment and scheduling, advertising, materials processing and storage, event planning and presentations, recruitment phone calls, administering informed consent, scheduling appointments for testing and meal delivery, as well as handling participant payments. This position will manage the research budget for Dr. Kohlmeier’s clinical projects including tracking expenses and assuring that the project is within budget. In all these facets, this position must be able to work independently and exercise considerable judgement.

The position will also create Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and modifications. This requires a good understanding of human subject research protections and management of clinical studies. This position will be charged with database creation and management, including tracking appointments, specimen collection and processing, meal preparation and delivery, washout periods, and protocol adherence (quality control). A major part of the duties will be clinical instrumental analyses, including assessment of body composition with DEX, BodPod, & PeaPod, measurement of energy expenditure with indirect calorimetry, non-invasive evaluation of liver composition with FibroScan and ultrasound instrument, and exercise testing with computerized dynamometer (Biodex), weights, and stairs. This position will also assist with data analysis and manuscript preparation.

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience required. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Completion of training as a dietitian or one year of research project management experience working with human studies, and experience with informed consent, subject recruitment, and management of the scheduling process also required. The selected candidate must be able to work weekends and evenings as necessary, and must be able to obtain ServSafe food handler’s certification within 90 days of hire.
