This position is located in Kannapolis, NC (2 hours from Chapel Hill).
The Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) is a freestanding research institute that is approximately 2 hours from Chapel Hill (20 minutes from Charlotte). It is part of a major collaborative effort (funded by the State of North Carolina) between UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, NC Agricultural and Technical University, NC Central University, and North Carolina State University.
The Nutrition Research Institute focuses on using cutting edge genomic and metabolomic biotechnology to develop innovative approaches to understanding the role of diet and activity in normal brain development, the prevention of cancer, and the prevention and treatment of other chronic diseases.
This position serves as the Director’s executive assistant and gatekeeper (i.e. protecting the Director’s time). This position is designed to manage the complex and varied tasks associated with supporting the work of the Director of the Nutrition Research Institute in Kannapolis. This includes drafting correspondence, memos, and reports, managing the Director’s calendar, handling travel arrangements, formatting and compiling information for research proposals, tracking lab and trust fund expenditures, drafting IRB and FDA IND applications, as well as interfacing with the public, General Administration, and other institutes and research centers at the NC Research Campus.
This position must exercise responsibility for administering budgets, formatting documents to specific standards, creating PowerPoint presentations, and developing other educational and public relations materials necessary for the Director’s outreach efforts. This position independently researches and compiles information affecting organizational goals and objectives and Director’s decision-making needs.
This position supports the Director’s teaching responsibilities. This position posts syllabi and assignments, responds to emails, reserves rooms and equipment, and liaises between the Director and students.
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
