Appetite For Life Summer Tours: See Where Nutrition Discoveries Happen – New Format!

See where and learn how scientific discovery takes place by touring two facilities on the NC Research Campus in Kannapolis. If you visit the Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) this summer you’ll get a bonus tour! We have partnered with our neighbors at NC State University so that your summer tour will include visits to research facilities at both the NRI and the adjacent NC State Plants for Human Health Institute (PHHI). Points of interest at NRI include one of only a few whole-room calorimeters in the US, a body composition lab, and research laboratories. At PHHI, you’ll test your lab skills with pipette accuracy, extract DNA from a strawberry and scan your hand to determine your skin carotenoid score (a good indicator of how many fruits and vegetables you’re eating).

Tours are limited to 16 people. Sign up now to secure your spot!

All tours begin at 10:30 AM in the NRI lobby at 500 Laureate Way, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Guests should arrive a few minutes early so we may start on time.

Tours are 1.5 hours in length: 45 minutes at the NRI and 45 minutes at PHHI. The buildings are next door to each other. Tours will conclude at the NRI. Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.
Consider grabbing lunch at the Lettuce Eat Cafe, in the NRI building, following the tour. You can find sandwiches made to order, salads, soups, and daily specials at the Cafe.

The June 20, 2019 tour is full.
